Tell us about what inspired you to work in the music industry, and how did it lead to the work you do today?

I have been obsessive about music from a very early age. Every step and milestone of my life had a soundtrack, it led me to playing instruments, which grew to embracing the music community and eventually took me into the music industry. I have never had a day in music where I haven't been inspired by something incredible and beautiful, so the drive to work closely with creatives forged my path to A&R.

Is there a success story or career milestone that you are most proud of?

Honestly, every step has been special and unique. When you see an artist able to express themselves in the way that is completely true to themselves and it reacts with a fanbase, that is the most incredible moment and to compare them seems impossible. Sometimes those moments come with a plaque or award, but but the true success story starts way earlier, with the way an artist forges their path and how you enable them to take the steps.

Are there any projects you're working on or company updates that you're most excited about?

I'm excited and inspired by the incredible Symphonic team, when I joined a year ago I did so because of the leadership of Jorge, Randall, Taylor and others and the way they held themselves with true integrity in the world of distribution. Now I'm able to be part of the team I am excited about the growth internationally, the new areas and genres we are able to work with and the innovations that are made almost weekly. I also get excited when I hear the reactions from people outside the company, whenever I speak to someone who has moved to Symphonic recently or been with us for years, it's always with great enthusiasm about how well they're treated, it's something that shouldn't be special, but it is.

What's a lesson that you learned early on in the music biz?

Listen, learn. There are a lot of people out there who like to talk a lot, but when you find someone who is smarter than you, better than you at something and willing to share with you. Shut up and listen. Mentors are so important for growth and you can find them if you are willing to listen.

What's your favorite part of your job and/or company?

I've worked for some great companies, but I'm blown away every day by the strand that runs through everyone at Symphonic, everyone is smart, motivated and friendly. No-one brings their ego to work and the amount that is achieved because of that is great. It allows me and the team to focus on my absolute favorite thing, creating a chance for great artists to be heard.

What does being independent mean to you?

It means choice and freedom. The way Symphonic is set up allows artists and labels to choose how they want to leverage their art. You can choose how you engage in new services and technology, you can choose if you want to release in specific areas or not. No-one should be utilising your music for their own benefit whilst ignoring your needs.

Favorite song at the moment?

Jon Hopkins and Imogen Heap - Reckoning

Outside of your work in music, do you have any other hobbies or particular areas interest/expertise?

I love photography, both taking photos and admiring great photographers. I also am a bit of a car nerd and can be often found driving great roads and tracks. I should ride my bike more.

Any words of advise for rising music industry professionals?

Be authentic and move with integrity.
