About EmmaJava Recordings

EmmaJava Recordings began when The Refreshments left their label, Mercury Records, for the independent route in 1999. Shortly after leaving, they realized they could no longer continue with one of the four band members who refused to get help for his drug addiction and a second member saying he could not take the rigors of touring. So the remaining members, Singer/Songwriter Roger Clyne, and his drummer, PH Naffah, re-tooled and named themselves Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. They have made 8 studio albums, four live albums, plus a new album which just dropped on March 6th, 2026.

The label exists for just the two bands, The Refreshments, and, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. They have also started their own music festival in the beach town of Rocky Point, MX (Puerto PeƱasco) which is a 4 hour drive South of Phoenix, AZ and happens every June. It is called  Circus Mexicus.

Why is being a part of the independent music important to you?

We have been an independent label for so long we can say we once had a MySpace page! And before that we paid for a chat board for the fans of the music to have a community online. Now the social media platforms have taken over and while our independence continues, we often experience platforms suppressing our posts to the fans. We find mainstream radio a complete impossibility. Trying to get national press is also close to impossible. So networking with other independent minded companies is where we can find comaraderie and cooperation.
